Srinagar:PDP Leader Mohammed Ashraf Malik Welcomes Jammu–Srinagar Train Service, Urges Halt at Qazigund Railway Station
Srinagar, May 3 : Senior Peoples Democratic Party leader Mohammed Ashraf Malik on Sunday hailed the launch of direct train connectivity between Jammu and Srinagar, terming it a major step forward for the region’s transport network.
In a statement, Malik appreciated the initiative but called upon the Railway Ministry to ensure a scheduled halt of major trains at Qazigund Railway Station, highlighting the difficulties faced by commuters from South Kashmir.
He said Qazigund acts as a key access point for people from areas such as Doru, Verinag, Kokernag and Devsar, where a significant number of students, traders, government employees and patients rely on rail services for their daily commute.
Malik pointed out that the lack of a designated halt at Qazigund has been causing inconvenience to the public, adding that even a brief stoppage would ease travel for thousands of passengers in the region.
Describing the direct Jammu–Srinagar rail link as a major boost to connectivity and economic activity, he urged Union Railway authorities to consider public demand and facilitate a halt at Qazigund.
The newly introduced direct train service between Jammu and Srinagar is expected to enhance connectivity and cut down travel time across the Kashmir Valley, benefiting commuters across multiple districts.
