Satish Sharma, Minister for Science and Technology in Jammu & Kashmir, has recently emphasized accelerating solar adoption through JAKEDA (Jammu & Kashmir Energy Development Agency). He urged the agency to fast-track rooftop solar projects, particularly in rural and remote areas, aiming for a sustainable, green, and energy-efficient region by reducing reliance on conventional power.
Minister for Science & Technology Department MR Satesh Sharma said that government's endeavor is to harness the potential of science and technology as an instrument of socio-economic change and to shift dependence for our energy needs to renewable energy sources.
The department aims to, through its endeavors increase reach, use of renewable means by making it accessible, efficient so as to integrate its use in every household. For this, the department is working on multiple fronts viz, providing subsidized products consuming renewable energy including solar cooker, Bio Gas stoves, lamps, geysers and promotion of these gadgets by way of creating awareness among people.
The Minister said that Science and Technology department has two important verticals, the Jammu & Kashmir Energy Development Agency (JAKEDA) and Science & Technology Innovation Council (ST&IC) having separate mandates.
With a view to provide more technical hands to JAKEDA and to make it a purely skilled manpower driven organization, organizational restructuring under the dynamic leadership of CEO JAKEDA Mr Dhar and Mr.Muzafar Ahmed Malik Dy.CEO has been done., the new structure which is relevant and robust shall be in place shortly.
The Minister further informed that in the process of creating Renewable Energy Corporation which would catalyze the development of renewable energy resources besides providing easy access to capital which is the fundamental requirement for Project development.

 



Minister for Science & Technology, Satish Sharma, today said that 6,999 Solar Street Lights (SSLs) are being procured during the year 2025-26 with a minimum of 50 being provided in each constituency of Jammu and Kashmir.
 

Cabinet Minister Satish Sharma inaugurates 143 kW rooftop solar plant in JammuA 143-kW grid-connected rooftop solar power plant was inaugurated today at Bahu, Jammu by Cabinet Minister Satish Sharma, with MLA Vikram Randhawa also present. The inauguration-cum-awareness programme was organised by Jammu & Kashmir Energy Development Agency (JAKEDA)
 

In a bid to accelerate the Government’s renewable energy initiatives, Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Information Technology, Transport, Youth Services and Sports, Satish Sharma today paid a surprise visit to ‘Tawanai Ghar’ of the Science & Technology (S&T) Department at Bemina here and took stock of its functioning.

Jammu and Kashmir has immense potential for harnessing solar, hydro and other renewable energy sources in Jammu and Kashmir”, stated Minister for FCS &CA, Transport, Youth Services and Sports, Science and Technology, Information Technology, ARI and Trainings, Satish Sharma, during his address at Regional Workshop on Renewable Energy held in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
 

(JAKEDA) under the Department of Science & Technology, Government of Jammu & Kashmir, has invited Request for Qualification (RFQ) proposals for the development of 35 Hydro Electric Power Projects with a cumulative generation potential of 60 MW across the Union Territory.
 


KLK Ventures Private Limited, a pioneer in renewable energy solutions, played an active role in the Kisan Mela and PM-KUSUM Awareness Programme organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Energy Development Agency (JAKEDA).
 

Commissioner Secretary, Science and Technology (S&T), Saurabh Bhagat today chaired a meeting at Civil Secretariat here to discuss and review the progress regarding strategy for saturation of Solar Rooftops on Government buildings in J&K under RESCO mode by NHPC-REL. Chief Executive Officer, NHPC-REL, Chief Program Manager, REC-India Ltd, Additional Secretary, S&T, Nodal Officers from Forest Ecology & Environment, Home, Law & Parliamentary Affairs , Jal Shakti departments and JAKEDA attended the meeting.
 

Commissioner Secretary, Science & Technology, Saurabh Bhagat, inaugurated the event.Athar Aamir Khan, Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Haris Ahmad Handoo, Vice Chairman, Srinagar Development Authority(SDA), Dr. P.R. Dhar, CEO, JAKED and Dr. Shafqat Ara, Principal, Govt.
